Soul Filter

‘Letters To Myself’ is a cathartic journey through the darkness of insecurities and surrender of self-acceptance. The outdated narratives we cling to like that dusty shoe box of old letters kept hidden in the closet. It's about acknowledging these stories, understanding their impact, and choosing to let them go.
“I want to re-write the letters I’ve been sending myself”.
Sonically it blends sounds straight-out-of-the-late-90's alternative world, with a modern pop flare. Alanis Morissette meets Dido meets alt rock. The introspective lyrics paired with a fun, punchy mid-tempo vibe and quirky guitar ear-worms perfectly portrays the intentional contradiction - just as the chorus line says “If you ask me how I am, I’ll say I’m well”. How many times have we replied “everything’s fine”- Keeping our vulnerabilities and self-doubts hidden, because deep down maybe we really know they’re just the stories we tell ourselves.

Soul Filter is a Summerside, PEI-based Alt Rock-Pop band, known for their windows down 90s-inspired sound and confessional lyrics. Fronted by husband-and-wife duo Karen and Mike Penton, the award nominated four-piece band blends introspective themes with catchy, anthemic melodies, soulful vocals, pop hooks and gritty guitar, while taking inspiration from artists like Alanis Morissette, The Cranberries and Sheryl Crow with a touch of Sass Jordan. Their live performances deliver a dynamic mix of original music and female fronted heart and soul, retro rock pop. Members are: Karen Penton on lead vocals & acoustic rhythm guitar, Mike Penton on electric lead guitar, Ronnie Arsenault on bass, and Andy Adams on drums.

"Soul Filter returns with “Letters To Myself,” a track that feels both like a reintroduction and a release. Sonically, Soul Filter leans into a nostalgic 90s alternative influence while keeping things fresh with a modern pop edge. The result is a mid-tempo, hook-driven track that balances heavy emotional themes with an undeniably catchy delivery."

"It’s got strong hooks, punchy guitars, and a chorus built for the radio. You can hear the influence of artists like Alanis Morissette and The Cranberries, but the song has that unique Soul Filter sound."
- V13 Media
"Soul Filter’s “Letters To Myself” is the kind of single that wears its vulnerability plainly and turns that honesty into its strongest feature.Coming out of Summerside, PEI, the band leans into a familiar late-90s alternative spirit while giving it a cleaner, more contemporary shape, landing somewhere between adult contemporary warmth and alt-rock reflection."
